Marko Marković (Osijek, 1983.), umjetnički istraživač koji se bavi samoorganiziranim društvima s kolektivnim angažmanima što koriste izvedbene umjetnosti kao strategije komunikacije prema javnom prostoru. Njegov rad istražuje performativnost kroz body art, happening, intervencije i akcije u javnom prostoru te društvene eksperimente kojima propituje poimanje identiteta. Od 2008. do 2018. godine kao neovisni kustos i umjetnički producent fokusira se na kulturnu razmjenu s obrazovnim platformama u području umjetnosti performansa u okviru međunarodnog festivala performansa DOPUST / Dani otvorenog performansa (Hrvatska, SAD i Austrija). Godine 2011. dobitnik je Nagrade „Radoslav Putar“ – Young Visual Artist Award s rezidencijalnim boravakom u ISCP / Intenational Studio & Curatorial Program New York, gdje se 2012. involvira u društveni pokret Occupy Wall Street Movement 99 %. Od 2012. do 2014. godine radio je u umjetničkoj i filmskoj produkciji kao projektni koordinator u studiju Matthewa Barneyja u New Yorku. Godine 2016. Marković se predstavio na 15. međunarodnoj izložbi arhitekture La Biennale di Venezia za Hrvatski paviljon, Session Giardini La Biennale di Venezia 2019. te na Međunarodnom bijenalu u Moskvi 2016., gdje je preuzeo identitet istoimenog umjetnika Marka Markovića. Marković je diplomirao Umjetničku akademiju u Splitu 2007., pedagogiju i sociologiju na Sveučilištu u Zadru 2010. te magistrirao umjetnost i znanost na Sveučilištu primijenjenih umjetnosti u Beču 2020., gdje je i radio na istom odjelu kao koordinator programa za Europsku prijestolnicu kulture Rijeku 2020. Marković je predavao kao profesor crtanja i slikanja u srednjoj Školi likovne umjetnosti Split, gostujući predavač na UDK-u Berlin, na IZK-u (Institutu za suvremenu umjetnost) u Grazu, na Akademiji likovne umjetnosti u Zagrebu i na Sveučilištu primijenjenih umjetnosti u Beču. Tijekom karijere ostvario je kustoske suradnje s MMSU-om (Muzej moderne i suvremene umjetnosti) Rijeka i mumok-om (Museum of Modern Art Foundation Ludwig) u Beču.
Marko Marković (Osijek, 1983) is an artistic researcher who deals with self-organizing societies with collective engagements that use performing arts as a communication strategy targeted towards public space. Hiw work explored performativity through body art, happenings, interventions and actions in pubic space, and social experiment that quetion the concept of identity. From 2008 to 2018, as an independent curator and artistic producer, he focused on cultural exchange with educational platforms in the field of performance art within the framework of the international performance festival DOPUST / Days of Open Performance (Croatia, USA and Austria). In 2011, he won the Radoslav Putar – Young Visual Artist Award with a residency at ISCP/International Studio & Curatorial Program New York, where in 2012 he became involved in the Occupy Wall Street Movement 99%. From 2012 to 2014, he worked in art and film production as a project coordinator at Matthew Barney's studio in New York. In 2016, Marković presented himself at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia for the Croatian Pavilion, Session Giardini La Biennale di Venezia 2019 and at the International Biennale in Moscow 2016, where he assumed the identity of the eponymous artist Marko Marković. In 2007, Marković graduated from the Academy of Arts in Split, in 2010, at the University of Zadar he graduated in pedagogy and sociology, and in 2020 got a master's degree in art and science from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in 2020, where he worked in the same department as program coordinator for the European Capital of Culture Rijeka 2020. Marković was a teacher of drawing and painting at the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Split, and was a guest lecturer at UDK Berlin, IZK (Institute for Contemporary Art in Graz), the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. During his career, he collaborated as a curator with MMSU (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka) and mumok (Museum of Modern Art Foundation Ludwig) in Vienna.

Nazivom Southeast Sadness in Central Europe izvedba determinira transnacionalni položaj života između dva svijeta, dvije države, dva vremena te konstantno kretanje između paralelnih realnosti kao osobe koja mijenja putanju, migrira, putuje i provodi život u različitim društvenim i geopolitičkim kontekstima. Simbolika likovnosti rada odiše mračnom atmosferom memento mori pandemijskog doba melankolije, zbunjenosti i dislociranosti koju proživljavamo svi zajedno, no odvojeni jedni od drugih. Poetski prikaz paradigme sreće u ovom kontekstu je, dakako, ambivalentnog karaktera, koji komunicira od spektra iluzije do realnosti kao bizarna akcija jedenja jestivog i nejestivog cvijeća otvarajući dijalog o okolini i mogućnostima izbora koji određuju našu slobodu. Mišljenja sam da je trebalo proći određeno vrijeme kako bih došao do ovog performansa, kao da me ovaj performans čekao godinama da ga izvedem baš u Osijeku, mom rodnom gradu koji sam napustio još kao vrlo mlad. Performans je izveden na posljednjem izdanju Performance Art Festivala Osijek 2021 kao rad koji je obilježio kraj jedne kulturne i umjetničke epohe.
With its name Southeast Sadness in Central Europe, the performance determines the transnational position of life between two worlds, two states, two times and the constant movement between parallel realities as a person who changes trajectory, migrates, travels and spends his life in different social and geopolitical contexts. The symbolism of the work's visuality exudes the dark atmosphere of the memento mori of the pandemic era of melancholy, confusion and dislocation that we all experience together, yet separated from each other. The poetic presentation of the paradigm of happiness in this context is, of course, ambivalent, and it communicates from the spectrum of illusion to reality as a bizarre action of eating edible and inedible flowers, opening a dialogue about the environment and the possibilities of choice that determine our freedom. I believe that it took me a while to come to this performance, as if this performance had been waiting for me for years in order to be performed exactly in Osijek, my hometown, which I left when I was very young. It was performed at the last edition of the Performance Art Festival Osijek 2021 as a work that marked the end of a cultural and artistic epoch.
