Igor Ruf rođen je 1984. godine u Virovitici. 2010. godine diplomirao je Kiparstvo na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu. Od 2010. godine kontinuirano sudjeluje na umjetničkoj sceni predstavljajući svoje radove na do sada 15 samostalnih izložbi, te brojnim skupnim i pozivnim izložbama. Za svoj dosadašnji rad primio je nekoliko priznanja i nagrada, od kojih valja izdvojiti Veliku nagradu Triennala hrvatskog kiparstva 2012. godine, nagradu 31. salona mladih, također 2012. godine, te nagradu Radoslav Putar 2014. godine. Boravio je na umjetničkim rezidencijama u Leipzigu, New Yorku, Düsseldorfu i Parizu. Od 2020. godine bavi se scenografijom, te je od tada realizirao 5 autorskih scenografija u kazalištima i prostorima nezavisne scene u Zagrebu. Od 2012. zaposlen ne na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu.

Since 2010, he has been continuously participating in the artistic scene, showcasing his work in 15 solo exhibitions to date, as well as numerous group and invited exhibitions. For his work, he has received several recognitions and awards, among which are the Grand Award of the Triennale of Croatian Sculpture in 2012, the award from the 31st Salon of Young Artists, also in 2012, and the Radoslav Putar Award in 2014. He has participated in artist residencies in Leipzig, New York, Düsseldorf, and Paris. Prije nekoliko godina, na glomaznom otpadu sam našao Bernardo Bernardi fotelju. Bio sam oduševljen time što sam našao prekrasan komad namještaja, no nakon nekoliko godina povlačenja fotelje po ateljeu, primijetio sam da je ne koristim jer je neudobna za dugotrajno sjedenje, te sam je sve više počeo promatrati kao nefunkcionalni lijepi objekt koji mi zauzima mjesto u ateljeu. S tim zaključkom, odlučio sam je prisvojiti i upotrijebiti u svom radu. Kako pecanje oduvijek doživljavam kao idealnu aktivnost, a zbog više faktora, moje pecanje nikada nije postalo više od par neuspješnih ribolovnih pokušaja na godišnjem, odlučio sam Bernardijevoj fotelji na kojoj ne sjedi nitko pružiti mogućnost da peca, usprkos tome što poput mene, najvjerojatnije neće uloviti ništa. (Vrijedi napomenuti da sam nakon nastanka ovog rada, u kolovozu 2023. godine, ulovio zubaca težine 1,5 kg).

A few years ago, I found a Bernardo Bernardi chair in the bulky waste. I was thrilled to find such a beautiful piece of furniture, but after a few years of dragging the chair around my studio, I noticed that I was not using it because it was uncomfortable for prolonged sitting. I started to see it more as a non-functional beautiful object that was taking up space in my studio. With this conclusion, I decided to appropriate the chair and use it in my work. Since I have always perceived fishing as an ideal activity, and due to various factors, my fishing has never amounted to more than a few unsuccessful attempts a year, I decided to give Bernardo's chair, which no one sits on, the opportunity to fish, despite the fact that, like me, it will most likely not catch anything. (It is worth noting that after the creation of this work, in August 2023, I caught a Common dentex fish weighing 1.5 kg).
